A medida que va ganando terreno la normalidad previa al estallido de la pandemia del coronavirus, Bilbao recupera su carácter de ciudad
de acogida de eventos internacionales de todo tipo, atraídos por el insólito proceso de transformación que, en poco más de tres décadas,
nos ha permitido pasar de un estilo de ciudad postindustrial en plena decadencia a convertirnos en un modelo de desarrollo urbano y
humano de referencia internacional.
Hace 25 años, el Museo Guggenheim diseñado por Frank Gehry colocó a Bilbao en el mapamundi de las grandes ciudades culturales,
reafirmando nuestra apuesta por la cultura como derecho humano y como palanca para la construcción de un futuro sostenible desde el
punto de vista tanto medioambiental como económico y social, que permita el desarrollo de opciones de vida dignas a las generaciones
venideras.
En ese sentido, para Bilbao es un orgullo tomar el testigo a la ciudad alemana de Ulm en la organización de la 25ª edición del Simposio
Europeo de Acuarela, que tendrá lugar entre los días 26 de septiembre y 1 de octubre de 2022.
Como Alcalde de Bilbao, agradezco a la Agrupación Vasca de Acuarelistas, que días después del simposio cumplirá 78 años, los esfuerzos
realizados para traer a nuestra ciudad este importante encuentro cultural, y espero que todas las personas asistentes a este evento anual
de la European Confederation of Watercolour Societies (ECWS) tengan ocasión de disfrutar de la extensa oferta cultural, gastronómica y de
ocio de esta ciudad que les recibe con los brazos abiertos.

As the normality prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic gains ground, Bilbao recovers its character as a city that hosts
international events of all kinds, attracted by the unusual process of transformation that, in little more than three decades, has allowed us
to go from a post-industrial style of city in full decline to become a model of urban and human development of international reference.
25 years ago, the Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry placed Bilbao on the world map of the great cultural cities, reaffirming
our commitment to culture as a human right and as a lever for the construction of a sustainable future from the environmental, economic
and social point of view, which allows the development of dignified life options for future generations.
In that sense, Bilbao is proud to receive the baton from the German city of Ulm in the organization of the 25th edition of the European
Watercolor Symposium, which will take place between September 26 and October 1, 2022.
As Mayor of Bilbao, I thank the Basque Association of Watercolorists, which days after the symposium will turn 78, for the efforts made to
bring this important cultural meeting to our city, and I hope that all the people attending this annual event of the European Confederation
of Watercolour Societies (ECWS) will have the opportunity to enjoy the extensive cultural, gastronomic and leisure offer of this city that
welcomes them with open arms.
